Help Us Make TTOB Happen!

Join Us on our journey . . .

  • We are readers, sharing thoughts about our reading, meeting and discussing with our friends and in book clubs. We ask others, “What are you reading?” or “Have you read anything good lately?” We nominate our favorites and encourage others to nominate theirs. A long list of community favorites is assembled.
  • Which of these titles will most likely appeal to our community readers? Which will encourage lively discussions? Which will inspire relevant events? Which will reveal an interesting map for this season’s travels? These are the questions we ask as a group of enthusiastic, well-read bibliophiles examines the list of possible contenders, researches the titles, and chooses the texts to be read over the summer. Oh, yes…we are embarking on another exciting reading adventure!
  • We narrow down the list of nominations to a top 20 or so, and we form reading discussion groups. Each group reads four to five nominees to determine the suitability of each to be one of our five contenders for the community vote. Discussions are opinionated, passionate, and joyful.
  • The next step is to present recommendations to our Steering Committee. Representatives of each discussion group advocate for books to be our final five contenders. The results of this exhilarating discourse are shared in August as the five final contenders are revealed to all for a public vote.
  • You determine our next Book of the Year with your votes. The winning book is announced in mid-September during Library Vote Day.
  • Thematically connected Junior Companion Books are selected for our “Kids Read, Too!” friends.
  • Community activities for all ages are planned to explore the content and themes of the book.
  • Our event-filled season celebrating the book and its themes runs from January to May as another journey begins.
Note: Due to COVID-19, the typical timeline is interrupted for the time being. Watch this website, the FOL Book Friendly newsletter, and our Constant Contact emails for information on alternative no-contact activities.
